exhausting to live
nursing a soap bubble
when a stray wind or word
can pop a fleeting happiness

the spark once doused
again reignites
and sets tender tinder
aflame

sometimes I feel
more plant than animal
storing up sunshine
for those overcast days

do not let
anyone’s refusal, stop
you from doing
what lights you up;
you are a magnificent
singularity

the smiles of yesteryear
grow fainter by the day
but the contentment they evoke
hold eternal sway

O happiness of youth
and radiant possibilities
why must such flowers
bloom readily
for only a short while?

although I can cast aside
wealth
and live happily
in humble surroundings

still I will crave

and the love
and approbation
