arbor rain smells
of chlorophyll and earth
worms and robins
muddied sneakers
a snowflake falls
on an early
snowdrop
lackadaisical:
a chime lounges
on a windless day
elegant trees shed
teardrops of red
and ocher

A ray of light piercing
the storm clouds
invokes thoughts of spring
and long days of summer;
a growing season
when I can, at last
lift my head
from the ashes.
seven long years of struggle underground
and this summer, only a shell split down the middle
to show where you first spread your wings
waiting for the cool skirt of night
to sweep away the Indian summer
I am brown and over-ripe
and seek the relief of harvest
evening wind scatters
the humid traces of mid-noon
pouring into the streets
men loosen their ties
humid night lays a blanket
over a fretful sleeper
waiting for midnight
the nights still hold midday’s breath
but on deceptive winds, the winged flee
heralding the approaching cold
fall’s crispness
winter
snap
summer heat
although our hands don’t meet
still cloying sweet
when your eyelashes sweep
in shyness
Bumblebee upon the tree
of dogwood circles fine
to a garden of azalea bushes
beside the crooked pine.
There he dances delightedly
encountering many flowers:
a plethora to dine and sip away
the lazy summer hours.
the cicada have gone silent
and the nights turn colder
flirtation seeks shelter
and hides another season
