When Sympathy Fails

kindness not judgement
succors pains unknown
to one who is well

deep within my skull
there is a fist between my eyes
clenching on a node of neurons

they spark like faulty wire
and paralyze me between
callousness and indifference

Bedside

from one moment to the next
you are like a candle in the wind
near you, I hold my breath

Recovery

The sun between the blinds
Invites me to rise from my long sickbed
And the aches from yesterday
Do not ache so much today
