Dark spots on asphalt
Traces of an overnight storm
The city slept through

Rain Walk
into the gentle rain
the mist a delicate veil
the world seems a slow heartbeat
sending rhythmic indolence
to my marching toes
Magnolias in Mid-April
beaten by a week’s harsh rain
magnolia blossoms
wither and brown
while budding green leaves
make their attempts
at succor
The City at 2AM
at last, the lashing rain abates
the howling wind creeps away
tail between its legs
and in the distance
a truck treads and parts slow
puddles in urban lullaby
windows fogged, and silent
Mirrors
raindrops cleanse
on a cloudy day
I forsake my reflection
and see farther
Cloudy with a chance of rain
today, all is in suspense
the deserted streets
and the pregnant clouds
hushed and unwilling
to allow the pitter-patter
of rain
Shelter
Little leaf upon the tree
I spy you from my window
and sigh to think of the rain
which runs so easily
over your veins
while I must take shelter.
A Farmer’s Rain Dance
Though I strive and turn the wheel
to mill my sparse grain,
I covet the parched land,
avidly seeking, vain.
In every revolution
I hope for difference and not of same;
I beg God for the life-giving
weeping, changing rain.
A favorable precipitation
Snow flurries while I walk
but rain as I peer out
the window
In the morning
dry pavement
And not a trace
of either
Rainy Eve
Wet Christmas Eve
unlike any other
dour day
is one of relief
No snow to impede
the trek and sojourn
to long missed family
