To the zenith I have climbed
in my own sweet wandering time:
Our meeting was a foregone eventuality
but less certain was the punctuality.

Sheep Surprise
a lone hiker cresting
over the mountains…
two woolly locals!
Mountain in the Water
On the lake,
a mountain.
A reflection
never mistaken for
the original.
Yet, you count
ripples in the water
and forget
who I am.
From the Prairie to the…
Midwest child grew up
Dreaming of the sea
Ocean currents
Brine-scented breeze
But found instead a love of snow
Mountainous caps
White afterglow
Gnome Trouble
Once I saw a gnome in the garden
When summer was high and I was a-yardin’
With lovely ears and an impish smile
Eyes full of tricks and rosy-faced guile
He hustled me out of a foot of grass by the fountain
By claiming he’d raze the mole hill mountain
But when the leaves fell, still it still stood
And I realized, he’d hoodwinked me good
But by then the Missus had moved in with the babes
Now I avoid that patch with the lawnmower’s blades
And wonder if a treehouse would suit better
My conniving, parental little go-getter
On the Mountain Peak
This blanket of silence
Smothers tender feelings and hopes
But if I fail to yell
Who shall hear me?
At least the mountain echoes my thoughts
Perhaps we were both awaiting
Each other
Vista
The fires of others dot the landscape
In the dark, the first stars illuminate
On the mountain, I alone
Breathe the cold air and mist
Warmed by the glow and hope
