purple asters arc
radiantly
from oak trees
acorns hang heavy
and drop
underfoot
on the last gust
of summer wind
the hummingbirds
arrive
and make haste
purple asters arc
radiantly
from oak trees
acorns hang heavy
and drop
underfoot
on the last gust
of summer wind
the hummingbirds
arrive
and make haste
Perhaps this fall
I shall espy a Wood-y
Mixed in among the mallards
Tree Swallow banking
through a rush of windy current
nature’s blue chrome jet
Orange pekoe tea
Sandpipers flying in vees
Against the sunset
Mother Duck with her quintet brood
Came onto land for some food
Found I’d arrived with pockets bared
Sniffed and huffed that I’d dared
Greet her without a proper bribe
And swam off with her tiny tribe.
Proud peacock with tail fanned bright
A jeweled iridescence in the light
He struts and calls like a warrior to war
Plumed helmet ready for a clash and soar
Against rival swains and youthful knights
He’ll win his beloved lady with delight
For dreams and hopes keep him tall
And Love gives him courage to gamble all.
Masked for a spring waltz
A red robin on the branch
Courts sweetly with song
Ospreys on their lookout tower
Spot the languid movements of waterfowl
The gliding underneath the lake
Of piscine solutions for hunger’s slake
Floating on still water
the white neck of a swan
bows to its partner
Crocus in focus
On a bright balmy day
Heralding the spring
And directing birds to lay.
