Avoiding an Argument

I have let the fire pass
and yet find my eyes drawn
to destructive tinder and red flame

your words burn
me down
to ashes

Beached

Boat

let us row together from the shore
you at one end of the boat
and I at the other

then you shall see where
our oars take us
when we paddle opposite ways:

no where

and you find my disagreement
such a negligible thing

Truce

What deity’s idle daydreams
Caused the rain and sun to form a rainbow?
If only two people with opposite dispositions
Could end strife as easily

Turbulent

Your voice, like a wave
Washes away my doubts and fears
But on stormy nights the lighthouse goes dark
If we weather this storm
Surely, sunny days will find their way to us
And together, we’ll discover paradise again

The sea sighs a breath
Under the sky, the gulls
Pick over a conundrum

Auditory Mirage

In between sleep and waking
I hear your voices gently arguing
About food and granddaughters
And think, I must have missed them
