I remember there being a mangle in the yard, a coal fire in the lounge and kitchen, and the only toilet outside. It was terrible.

I like it more than doing the dishes (when there are a lot of them)!
I have to go outside, across the parking lot–often in the rain (or winter ice)–to do mine, so I’ll take dishes any day!!
I still have a mangle or wringer in my garage! Unearthed a wee while ago from the cellar. A beautiful piece of work. I might be tempted to try it out at soeme point just for nostalgia’s sake.
