For the Solo Traveler

At the airport
I gave my friend
a serene Buddha
although neither of us
knew the Four Truths
or the Eight Fold Path.

She turned it in her hand:
a statuette, small
enough to fit
inside her pocket.

It would be
the someone
who always
smiled back
when she did.

  1. I kept thinking the last one was going to say: It would be the someone who always smiles back when she didn’t. It would bring a whole other meaning to the poem. 🙂

    1. Indeed, it would be a different meaning. I was thinking more of a companion the traveler could share their joy with. But, you should considering exploring the other idea! *winks* ❤
